This week Shanna left the SMACK! Boulder headquarters to spend some time in Seattle with the Nuun Hydration team to prepare for an upcoming Nuun product launching online May 21st! In true SMACKANISTA style Shanna spent an action packed 3-Days filled with meetings, sight seeing, good food, friends and nights out on the town! Here is a glimpse at the trip through Shanna’s eyes!

Monday: We went to a Mariners game with Mason (President). The Mariners were down the first 8 innings, but in the 9th inning, Mariners scored 3 runs and won 3 to 2 over the Detroit Tigers.

Tuesday: I Ran 6 miles with Mason in the morning through beautiful Madison Park. Afterwards we went visit our friends at Oiselle, Sally and Sarah.

Wednesday: I spent the day working with Erin (marking director), Kimberly (events), Arielle (social media and online marketing manager), Jeff and Tyler (specialty sales). The Nuun offices are incredible and located in the International District of Seattle, which is awesome. It is the Asian district so there is sushi, Korean bbq, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. for delicious lunch just a quick walk away!

Shanna, who ran collegiately at the University of Colorado Boulder, gave birth to daughter Adriana last year and Adriana turns one tomorrow, Friday the 13th! (Already?)
. In addition to balancing her demands as a mother and work at SMACK! Media, she stays fit with Crossfit and pushing Adriana in the jogging stroller on the beautiful trails of Boulder. This summer Shanna is looking towards a return to racing with the Hood to Coast Relay on her calendar. Held annually in Oregon, the event is a 199 mile 12 person relay that starts at Mt. Hood and finishes on the beautiful coastal town of Seaside.

Sarah is looking forward to getting her running back on track this year after dealing with some injuries that are all to common in endurance sports. Her goal is to get her mileage back up to a solid 25-30 miles a week. A triathlete at heart, Sarah also plans to include cycling into her training program. Her favorite route is a 26 mile climb to the top of Mt. Lemon in Tucson, AZ which she hopes to reach by Memorial Day!

Morgan runs for the pure joy of it (a bit of her inner-yogi spilling over) but she also loves to race fast and compete on the track. Her goals for the spring and summer are to race the 5K and 1500 at the endless track meets held in the beautiful weather of Southern California. She also looks forward to some fun traveling to go along with these races including trips to Berkley, Big Sur, Mexico City and Portland. Morgan credits her daily home-practice of yoga with keeping her body and mind in balance and healthy for running, work and life. She enjoys sharing this passion with her yoga students at the class she teaches once a week.

To capture the versatility and benefits of Nuun while promoting proper hydration and a healthy active lifestyle, we shot Nuun at San Diego’s fitness hot spots. We started at the track with some running.  As any well-rounded fitness program would feature, we incorporated a gym session, cycling, coffee drinking (yes that’s important too!), yoga and tennis. When Eli told me that we would be going to New York City to meet with the major health and fitness magazines and editors to introduce PEAR Sports with Co-CEO and Founder Kristian I was so excited about the assignment that I nearly forgot that it was also my first trip across the country. I’ve been working with several of these incredible people for almost a year and was looking forward to putting faces to the names. However, the full picture set in as Eli and I discussed outfits, weather and plans throughout the week–yes, the women of SMACK! were ready to drop the PEAR bomb on the big apple!

The trip itself was a very successful 48 hour whirlwind. We accomplished all of our plans and met with everyone we intended to including Eli’s family members (two brother-in-laws plus a twin brother), highlighting the SMACK! importance of true face to face PR even on a family level. Meeting with the magazine editors from Runner’s World, Health, More, Fitness, Men’s Journal, Shape and Self and watching Kristian present the Square One and Training Intelligence System was extremely gratifying for both of us as we have worked very closely with PEAR Sports from the initial development to launch, inclusive of branding, copywriting, web site development, photo shoots, packaging, social media and of course, PR. This truly was the Square One coming to life!

In between meetings, we power-walked through the streets of Manhattan resulting in plenty of accidental sightseeing: Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City Music Hall and The New York Stock Exchange. Kristian picked out a hip little hotel called The Time located in Times Square and in prime location for an evening of people and city watching. The red eye flight hit us hard and none of us stayed up past 11 pm in the city that supposedly never sleeps. This left us refreshed and energized for another round of power meetings the following day.

While my best memories are the learning experiences I had during the press tour meetings and an amazing lunch at Le Pain Quotidien in Bryant Park, Eli’s remains amazed at my constant consumption of huge black and white cookies and cupcakes! We both quadrupled our typical coffee intake during the trip and like true California girls, we couldn’t wait to slip back into our sneakers and yoga pants for the plane ride home back to our families and sunshine!
