The SMACKANISTAS love sports and this summer is a dream come true (hello: U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials, Tour de France, CrossFit Games, OLYMPICS)! The action kicks off today with the start of the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials. Both Shanna and Morgan will make the trek up to Eugene, Oregon next week to watch the races and mingle with SMACK! Media affiliated athletes and future Olympians. Of course they can’t wait to catch up on SMACK! over coffee!
One athlete that is dear to our hearts is Danielle Carruthers who competes in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Danielle is a SHEEX Sleep Ambassador and it has been an honor to work with her and to get to know her. Danielle won the Silver Medal at the 2011 World Championships and is poised to make the U.S. Olympic Team and win another medal this summer at the 2012 Olympic Games in London!
Danielle will compete in the 100 Meter Hurdle Finals tomorrow night at the historic Hayward Field for a chance to earn her spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Tune in to NBSN on Friday, June 22 (9-11 p.m. EST/6-8 p.m. PST).
What sets Danielle apart from other athletes is her work ethic, perseverance and positive attitude. Her incredible personality shines through to her outer beauty as well! While the SMACKANISTAS are all endurance athletes, Danielle admits she relates best to distance athletes because they are very in-tune with taking care of their health, eating well, getting enough sleep and staying focused.
The road to the top has not always been an easy one for Danielle. For a mega-dose of inspiration check out this interview from Flotrack where Danielle discusses how patience and belief kept her from leaving the sport of track and field too soon!
